Honeymoon Travel

IMG_9395

Now that my wedding planning is underway and we’ve been checking items off our list, it was time to turn our attention to our honeymoon!

Deciding where to go on our honeymoon was pretty tough, because I have a list of about 1,000 places that I want to travel to. We both agreed that wherever we go, it needed to be epic and a once in a lifetime experience. I also really wanted somewhere that would be pure relaxation, since we will probably be exhausted after the wedding. All of these factors played into our selection. Budget also played a factor, but I’ve been saving up my travel points for a while now in anticipation of this trip and it will totally help pay for my flight (allowing more money to stay at a nicer hotel!).

I’ve partnered up with RBC Visa Infinite Avion on this post, because ever since I started collecting points I’ve been able to redeem points to fully cover my flights using just points and it’s basically the greatest thing ever. I use my RBC Visa Infinite Avion card to pay for everything and I find that the points build up really quickly (with an Infinite Avion card you can earn 1 point for every $1 spent, 1.25 for every $1 spent on travel and the points never expire).

I also love that there’s no flight restrictions or black out periods which is super important. We wanted to go on our honeymoon right after our wedding and we didn’t have to think twice about the dates. I love knowing that we can use our points at any time and travel whenever and however we want with no restrictions. Having the flexibility to travel on our own terms, while still taking advantage of our points is really the best of both worlds.

So, here’s where I need your help. Help us narrow down our honeymoon destination. Here’s the short list:

– Bora Bora

– Greece

– Italy

– Maldives

– Bali

– Hawaii

– Belize

Excuse for a Girls Night!

Not that you need an excuse for a girls night, but I’ll take just about any excuse to throw a party.  The Bachelor Canada just kicked off and there’s nothing I love more than hosting Bachelor viewing parties. The show just isn’t the same if you don’t have your girls there to laugh over the drama and shed a few tears over the sappy parts. I’m a huge fan of The Bachelor/Bachelorette franchise. It’s definitely one of my guilty pleasures. I started watching all the way back in season 1 of The Bachelor and I’ve never missed a season, which is why I was super excited when the show started a Canadian version. Canada has brought us some of the most memorable Bachelor/Bachelorettes (Jillian Harris, Kaitlyn Bristowe, Daniel Maguire), so it only makes sense that we have our own.

Combine my love for throwing parties with my love of The Bachelor and let’s also throw in my love of wine and you get the below Bachelor Viewing Party Essentials:

– Wine (duh!)

– Chocolate roses

– Other delicious snacks

– Candle light to set the mood

Did you catch the first episode yet? I always love these intro episodes. They are super awkward and fun, plus it’s hilarious to see how fast everyone’s true colours come out.

ChrisLeroux_feautre-300x400 Chris Leroux is this season’s Bachelor.

He’s a former pro baseball player and is now looking to settle down. He seems nice and normal, like he’s truly here for love and not just for the Instagram fame (like most of the US Bachelors).  Does anyone else notice this now? Peter from Rachel’s season started selling FabFitFun boxes before his season was even over! At least wait until the season is over! Geez!

Your usual suspects were all present on night #1: The free spirit (Kait the “Luxury Travel Nomad”), the girl with a kid who is definitely here for the right reasons (Dee), the girl dressed as a sea creature (Lisa), the one who has a breakdown on night one (Shanti), the girl who mentions right away that she’s “not here to make friends”, which is basically code for “I’m going to cause drama” (Brittany).

Shall we predict some finalists? Here’s my prediction for the top 4:

Catie is a lawyer and meditation coach. The girl is basically a mix of Britney Spears and Jessica Alba. It doesn’t exactly look like it in the photo below, but when you hear her talk and see her on camera she totally is. And what guy could resist that? Her and Chris definitely had a connection in their 1 on 1.

Dee seems cool, down to earth and super sweet. Her and Chris definitely had the best connection of the night. He even gave her the first impression rose.

Lyndsey just seems very normal and I liked that she was supportive of the other women. She also received Chris’ first ceremony rose and I think that’s a really good sign.

Stacy seems like a total sweetheart. We didn’t see too much of her this episode, but they gave her the longer opening out of the limo and that normally means that she’ll be sticking around for a while.

Be sure to tune in tomorrow night for episode #2! They are headed to Costa Rica, which I’m super excited about.

Up Your Picnic Game!

Picnicking is definitely one of my fav things to do on a beautiful summer day. Why drink and eat in your house when you can spend that time outside surrounded my nature? Our summer in Canada is so damn short, it’s important to soak up every literal second of outdoor time. But, duh! Any true Canadian knows this.

I live pretty close to High Park and it’s one of the best spots in Toronto for a picnic. This picnic basket below is so cute and also has a built-in cooler. It’s a great way to step up your picnic game.

Another key to my picnics this summer has been these new Jacob’s Creek Moscato cans (new to the LCBO this summer and exclusive to Canada!). Yes, you heard me right. Wine in a can is a thing now. The cans just happen to be adorable and Instagram-worthy. They seriously taste delicious, sweet, crisp and refreshing. I can also see these being a staple at my girls nights from now on. Cute for display purposes and yummy – the best of both worlds.

So, what to pack to eat? Cheese, charcuterie and grapes are my go-to. A good, old-fashioned bag of chips doesn’t hurt either.

I’ve been taking picnic food inspiration from the photos below. A perfectly styled cheese board is one of the easiest and most delicious options.

Rooftop Terrace Makeover

I always dreamed of having a rooftop terrace, so when we moved into our new place I couldn’t wait to deck it out! Last summer, we bought all of the big stuff – a couch, dining table, bbq and my favourite feature of all; a cement fire bowl. This summer, it was all about the decor and finishing touches and I couldn’t wait to get started!

I partnered up with Home Depot on a rooftop terrace makeover and the results blew me away. The first thing Home Depot recommended was their Veranda Deck Tiles. The tiles ended up being the #1 thing that transformed and elevated the space. Even though it had only been 1 year, our cement blocks were stained and cracking. Once we covered them with the beautiful grey tiles it made the biggest difference. They were really easy to install and I love that they have a 25-year stain and fade resistance limited warranty. They also feel so much nicer when I’m up there in bare feet.

Some of my other top priorities were plants/planters, flowers and lights. The terrace gets a lot of sun, so I had to pick flowers and trees that are low maintenance and can handle the sun. I went with a mix of petunias, mint, lavender, cedars and palms. I hung two strings of Edison bulbs across the fence and they look amazing at night. I went with a mix of black and white planters to stick with the neutral colour tones.

Check out the before/after shots below!

I’m so excited about the transformation. We love to host our friends for bbq’s and nights by the fire roasting s’mores, so it was really important to me to have a space that was comfortable and functional. We also added an umbrella so that we could spend more time up there during the day without roasting in the sun.

The black planters and most of the plants are also from Home Depot. I also found this adorable circular ottoman for outdoor use. It works as a side table or an extra seat when we need it. I love that it’s multi-functional. I also added this cute white lantern
