Our Wedding

Very excited to finally be able to share some wedding photos with you all! My blog and social media took a bit of a hit this past year as I was busy planning our wedding and since I work full time, it left very little time for anything else. We also moved the same year as our wedding (which we said we weren’t going to do) which added another element of crazy to the whole year! Although it was a little stressful at times, it was also really exciting and I wouldn’t change a thing.

You dream of this day for so long, but nothing can quite prepare you for how amazing it actually is. Getting to marry the man of my dreams surrounded by everyone in this world that I love most was the most incredible feeling. We laughed, we cried, we danced and we celebrated the love that we have built over the last 8 years. It’s a day I will never forget and I’m so glad I get to re-live all of the moments through the photos and videos. It was a year and a half of planning and events leading up to the big day and I savoured it all. So excited to share all of the details with you below!

I love planning events and I’ve been event planning for over 10 years now, however planning a wedding was a totally new experience. I had the colours picked out for a very long time. I always knew I wanted blush pink and light grey. I also ended up adding in some rose gold elements and some clear acrylic details – I love this combination!

After nailing down the overall colour theme, I started with the invites as the first step in the planning process. Minted made the whole process incredibly easy and I’m always so impressed with the quality of their invites. There is also an endless selection of designs that will fit literally any wedding theme. The invites turned out so beautiful! The combination of the marble with the rose gold foil was stunning and exactly what I had dreamed up in my mind.

One of the best decisions we made was writing our own vows. It was of course very nerve wracking leading up to the moment, but in the end we were both happy we did it. I was so excited to hear what my husband was going to say and it was one of the most emotional parts of the whole day. We didn’t share our vows with each other before the wedding, because we wanted them to be a surprise. We laughed after at how similar they ended up being! We both threw in a joke about my husbands love of golf and we both promised each other very similar things. It was definitely one of my favourite moments. I found these vow books on Etsy and totally fell in love. Our rings are from Studio1098 in Toronto.

Picking out my wedding dress was one of my favourite parts of the whole planning process. I told myself I would try on anything and everything and I did. It was so much fun to just try on every style, colour and design. I eventually found a dress that encompassed everything I was looking for – a touch of pink while still looking like a wedding dress, some sparkle, lace and tulle. I definitely didn’t want to be boring, but I didn’t want to be too over the top. I initially thought I might go full ball gown, but after I tried on the form fitting mermaid style I changed my mind completely. I also loved having the beautiful straps. I didn’t have to worry about my dress falling down while dancing and I love how they remind me of butterflies. If you are in the Toronto area and wondering where to go to shop for your wedding dress or bridesmaid dresses, I recommend Amanda Lina’s. This is where I ended up finding my dress. It’s also where they shoot Say Yes To The Dress Canada. Their selection and variety were by far the best. I also loved going to Kleinfeld for the experience – I had all of my friends and family come with me and we made a day out of it. It’s so beautiful and dreamy inside. It’s totally a must-see. My bridesmaid dresses were from Pearl Bridal House. They have Hayley Paige gowns so definitely go there to try on wedding dresses, but they also have an upstairs dedicated to bridesmaids dresses and they had options that other boutiques didn’t. I ended up going with full tulle Monique Lhuillier and they were stunning!

My sister gave me this “Mrs. King” coat hanger at my bridal shower to hang my dress on and it was one of my favourite gifts!

Another great decision I made were these Kate Spade by Keds sneakers. Not only are they adorable, but they were SO comfy and noone even knew I was wearing sneakers. I could dance all night long without any pain! They also came in handy when we were shooting photos, since we were stepping over rocks and grass etc. Maneuvering in the dress was hard enough, the sneakers made it alot easier.

I also completely fell in love with these Betsey Johnson laser-cut rose gold heels from David’s Bridal. I wore these heels for the ceremony and some of the photos. My clutch, robes and all of our jewelry were also from David’s Bridal and looked so beautiful on everyone!

Coccola worked their magic with their glam squad on hair and makeup 🙂 They also did my hair and makeup for my bridal shower and I loved it.

Fun with my bridesmaids and flower girl before the ceremony! Love these pictures so much!

Time for the ceremony! We had plans to get married on the golf green on the water, but alas the rain and wind resulted in a last minute change and instead we got married under the white tent. You can’t pick the weather! That’s why we chose a venue with a decent rain plan. The rain held out for all of our photos, which we were super thankful for!

My little niece and nephew definitely stole the show! They had been practicing and during the rehearsal Levi would not go down the aisle. Then on wedding day, something came over him and he executed his ring bearer duties to perfection, even helping with the flower girl duties. It was the cutest moment! Again, so glad we had a videographer so that I got to watch it back since I missed out on this moment waiting behind the doors to walk out behind them. Just beyond precious!

After photos and the cocktail party, it was time for the reception. I was so happy with how all of our decor came together. We kept things pretty minimal. I tried to add some personal moments that I knew would mean alot to us and our guests. We framed photos from our parents and grandparents wedding days and put them at the entrance to the reception. It was one of my favourite elements of the decor.

I ended up making my seating chart DIY style. I purchased an acrylic sheet from Home Depot.  I then put together the seating plan in photoshop and had a printing company print them for me – I had attempted to print and cut them myself and could not get them to come out as straight as I wanted. I also had a printing company print a decal for the title. I used sticky glue dots to stick on the seating lists. I also used string to measure out the placement of the cards to keep things looking uniform. Seeing the finished product in the professional photos makes me pretty proud that it actually turned out okay! I also printed my own menus and place setting cards. I did acrylic for the table numbers, card box, welcome sign and CB2 supplied this stunning acrylic easel to hold the sign.

The L.O.V.E. letters looked so pretty in the room and really complimented the rest of the decor. Benchmark Designs has really cute wording options for bridal showers and weddings.

The cake was gluten free red velvet and it tasted AMAZING! It was nice to be at a wedding where I could actually eat the cake 🙂 Plus, it looked exactly like my inspiration photos.

The speeches were another one of my favourite parts of the whole day. I’m so glad we had a videographer to capture all of the speeches! It’s been so nice to re-watch  and hear them again.

Family Room Makeover

I’m incredibly excited to be sharing my family room makeover today in partnership with California Closets, Polka Dot Home Staging and Shic Pic Photography. I love getting to work with talented people across so many different industries and learning from the best. Home decor is something I really love. I know what I like when I see it in photos, but making it happen is a different story. This is when the experts come in really handy!

We said we weren’t going to move the same year we were getting married, but alas life never really works out how you plan it. We found a house we couldn’t pass up and the rest as they say, is history. I’m super excited about our house and cannot wait to decorate it, but it’s definitely going to take alot of time! We were so focused on the wedding and the honeymoon that we haven’t done much with the house yet.

I’m loving the new house, but I knew I was going to miss two things from our old place: the rooftop patio with our fire bowl (nights roasting marshmallows on the rooftop were always my favourite) and the beautiful wall unit that California Closets built us around our TV. We had them install  full shelving and cabinets all around the TV and it was the best decision we made. It gave us extra storage and looked amazing decorated with books and vases. I also loved hanging wreaths on it at Christmas!

When we first moved into our new house, we got the major items for the family room first. TV, couch, coffee table – the basics. This is where we spend alot of our time cuddling up to watch Netflix after a long day at work and where we entertain our friends. I couldn’t find any TV stands that I liked (I find most of them to be cheap or ugly looking and the nice ones are insanely expensive). We then got the idea to have California Closets come in and do another unit for us. Instead of doing full shelving and cabinets, this time we opted for a sleek cabinet under the TV so that it didn’t overwhelm the room. I LOVE how it turned out!

I wanted to show you guys the amazing transformation of the room, but I am not at a point where I could decorate the entire room yet. This is when I got the idea to partner up with a staging company that would help put the finishing touches on the room so I could put together this post, since I know it’s going to be a while until I fully decorate my place.  Polka Dot Home Staging did such an amazing job! If you are ever in need of some home staging they are an excellent resource. And if you are ever on the hunt for wall displays or built-in closets (or basically any type of organization unit), I highly recommend California Closets. We have worked with them twice now and both times were amazing. They make the process super easy and their pricing is reasonable (especially for the quality!). They work with you on the design and bring inspiration photos to life. The install is so quick (both of ours just took a few short hours).

Hope you enjoy the final look!

Me and Susan from Polka Dot Staging! They wear polka dot shirts when they come to your house. How adorable is that?

Bridesmaid Ask Gifts

Planning my wedding has been full of incredibly fun and emotional moments. Putting together my bridesmaid ask gifts was definitely one.

I decided to put together a box full of goodies for each of my bridesmaids that would represent the themes of my wedding. I included a mini champagne bottle to get the party started (I took off the label, spray painted them rose gold and dipped them in glitter), rose gold nail polish because I’m obsessed with rose gold, delicious macarons from AG Macarons (they are my go-to whenever I need to give a sweat gift) and a stress release candle to keep everyone relaxed (and by everyone, I mostly mean me haha).

I then had the amazing Cecile Lau Calligraphy put together the most beautiful tags and ask cards for me. I love the look of the watercolour designs she does.

Lastly, I took a trip down memory lane through my photo boxes and pulled out all of my favourite photos for each one of my bridesmaids. I then created a collage on the lid using all of my fav photos. Needless to say, I was a crying by the end of it and couldn’t wait to give out the boxes.

My sister is going to be my maid of honour and my bridesmaids include one of my oldest childhood friends, my university roommate, one of my best friends that I met years ago through work and my future sister-in-law. We just picked out the bridesmaid dresses this week and oh my gosh are they ever pretty! If I wasn’t so excited to wear my wedding dress, I’d be jealous of these bridesmaid dresses haha. They are so dreamy!

Let the Holiday Shopping Season Begin!

So I know it kind of goes against the true meaning of Christmas and everything, but I can’t help but LOVE going to mall around Christmas time and doing my Christmas shopping. Everything is extra beautiful and sparkly, there’s a warm feeling in the air and this is when all of the best merchandise and gift sets come out! Seriously, what’s not to love?

I don’t mess around when it comes to my Christmas shopping. I love doing it. I start early, but it’s mostly window shopping until I can narrow down the right gift and then I end up buying everything last minute. There’s a real strategy to it. My fav mall to shop at during the holidays is Yorkdale Shopping Centre in Toronto. It’s not as crowded as the other malls, they have all of the most beautiful window displays and pop ups and I have to admit the best part is the Avion Holiday Boutique.

If you haven’t experienced the Avion Holiday Boutique yet, you are seriously missing out. From now until December 31st they offer valet parking, gift wrapping, coat and parcel check (GENIUS!), VIP lounge and café, porter service, and there’s even a virtual reality experience.

The coat check and valet parking is SO key this time of year. There’s nothing worse than circling the parking lot for hours or dragging around your big, bulky coat while you try and hold onto your shopping bags. These two things alone make me so incredibly happy when I’m shopping. The coffee and cookies don’t hurt either.

Let me know if you’re taking a trip to Yorkdale this holiday season and if you’re an Avioner, be sure to take advantage of the boutique! The holiday decor and comfy furniture will be exactly what you need after a tough day of shopping.
